Atlético Madrid’s qualification for the Champions League was decided in extra time

BK Häcken were just a step away from the Champions League. But in the final minute of stoppage time, Atlético Madrid equalized, and in extra time the Spanish side managed to overcome the Swedish team.

  • BK Häcken lost 2-1 after extra time in Madrid vs Atlético Madrid and thus failed to qualify for the Women’s Champions League.
  • The tie was poised after a 1-1 draw in the first leg; in the return match, Häcken’s Anna Anvegård opened the scoring in the 38th minute.
  • Atlético Madrid equalised via a penalty in the 100th minute (after about 7 minutes of added time) through Luany, pushing the match into extra time.
  • In extra time, Synne Jensen scored the decisive goal for Atlético Madrid, making it 2-1.
  • Häcken will instead play in the new UEFA Women’s Europa Cup (along with Rosengård and Hammarby) since they did not reach the Champions League group phase.
