Captain Coffey is heading to WSL, joining Manchester City
Manchester City Women have announced the signing of United States international midfielder Sam Coffey on a contract running until summer 2029.
- Coffey joins City from the Portland Thorns FC of the NWSL, where she was club captain and a central figure in midfield.
- At Portland, when she was since 2022, Coffey helped the team reach the play off semi-finals and earned selection in the NWSL Best XI for the third time in four seasons.
- She is also a regular starter for the United States women’s national team, approaching 50 senior caps, and played a key role in the USA’s 2024 Olympic gold medal.
- This move marks Coffey’s first professional season outside the United States, as she takes on a new challenge WSL with City, who currently sit top of the league, six points ahead of Chelsea.
