Kansas City Current enter the new season after a disappointing playoff run with a new head coach. Vladko Andonovski replaces Chris Armas.

  • Kansas City Current won the league part of season 2025 and entered the playoffs as favourites. However, they were unexpectedly eliminated by the team that finished eighth in the standings - NY Giotham, and their title run came to an end much earlier than anyone had expected.
  • The club have agreed terms to appoint Chris Armas as their new head coach, with the deal expected to be finalized pending standard league clearance, marking a key coaching change ahead of the 2026 NWSL season
  • This appointment would be Armas’s first head coaching role in professional women’s football outside of his earlier university coaching experience, representing a notable shift from the men’s game to the NWSL. Armas himself is former professional player with 66 caps for the US national team.
  • Armas steps in after Vlatko Andonovski transitioned away from head coaching duties to focus solely on his role as sporting director following the Current’s record-setting 2025 regular season (winning the NWSL Shield).
