Savy King opens up about her collapse and plan to raise awareness
Collapsing on the pitch is never a pleasant experience. Unfortunately, Arsenal's Frida Maanum or Angel City defender Savy King have had such an experience—it happened to her in May this year. Now she has spoken out about her horrific experience.
- During an NWSL game on May 9 vs Utah Royals, Angel City defender Savy King collapsed in the 74th minute, requiring CPR on the field and immediate ambulance transfer.
- Hospital tests revealed a heart attack triggered by a congenital anomaly—an anomalous left coronary artery. Emergency surgery at Cedars‑Sinai rerouted her blood supply.
- King expressed profound thanks to her club’s medical team: “They saved my life… I play for them now, too.”
- She plans to use her experience to raise awareness about CPR, stressing that “anything can happen at any time” and knowing CPR can be lifesaving.
