Stockholm is blue! Djurgarden beat Hammarby in city derby for the first time since 2021
Djurgarden and Hammarby faced off in the city derby today. Although Hammarby was the favorite, Djurgarden won 2-1.
- In the Stockholm derby between Hammarby and Djurgården, Hammarby captain Alice Carlsson heavily criticised the pitch at Stockholms Stadion, calling it “probably the worst I’ve seen.”
- The grass was described as looking “almost as brown as green,” with visible wear and poor condition, which prompted comments from both teams during the match
- Despite her criticism, Carlsson said the condition of the pitch wasn’t an excuse, but expressed disappointment with her team’s first-half performance.
- Djurgårdens’ Mimmi Larsson also said the pitch wasn’t ideal, noting neither team had trained on it that week, but accepted they had to adapt.
On the match itself:
• Djurgården took an early lead through Lucia Duras setting up Mimmi Wahlström.
• Hammarby equalised near the end of the first half via Asato Miyagawa’s attack and finish toward the near post. The game was ultimately decided in the 95th minute, when Urara Watanabe scored the winner for Djurgården, making it 2-1.The result kept Hammarby on top of the league table by a slim margin (one point ahead, with more games played) and left Djurgården in fourth, some points behind.
