Swedish champions knock Inter Milan out of Europa Cup
After a narrow 1-0 home win, Häcken managed a goalless draw in Milan to advance to the Europa Cup quarterfinals.
- The first leg victory at home (1‑0) had given Häcken the advantage; the away draw therefore sealed progression.
- Forward Alice Bergström commented that the whole team had “that goal” and emphasised how important it was for the swedish club.
- In the first half of the away match Häcken came closest to scoring via a left‑wing play by Monica Jusu Bah that led to a shot hitting the post after the goalkeeper misjudged the cross.
- The star striker Anna Anvegård was highlighted for coming close twice, and revealed that the team would stay in Milan for two days to celebrate both the SM‑gold and this European progression.
- Despite pressure from Inter in the second half, Häcken held firm and secured the result needed to progress.
- Häcken’s next opponent is Iceland’s Breiðablik Kópavogur, with the quarter‑finals scheduled for 11‑12 Feb and 18‑19 Feb next year.
