What a match! England's progress to the semifinals was decided by penalties
The second quarterfinal between England and Sweden was decided by penalties. Sweden's streak of more than a year without defeat has come to an end, and England will face Italy in the semifinals.
- Captain Kosovare Asllani broke the deadlock in the 2nd minute, then Stina Blackstenius doubled the lead with a 25th-minute strike.
- But the Lionesses didn´t give up. ucy Bronze ignited the comeback with a goal in the 79th minute, followed by a 81st-minute equaliser from Michelle Agyemang to level the match. Both with the assits by Chloe Kelly, who just arrived on the pitch on 78th minute.
- Despite efforts from both sides, the score remained 2–2 after 120 minutes, pushing the quarter-final to penalties .
- England triumphed 3–2 in the penalty shootout, earning a place in the semi-finals against Italy .
