William Strömberg named new head coach of Hammarby
William Strömberg, who has served as assistant coach under Martin Sjögren, will take over as head coach of Hammarby IF at the end of the season.
- He will succeed Martin Sjögren, who is leaving Hammarby to move to the NWSL side Chicago Red Stars after the current season.
- The decision was made after a recruitment process and the club’s sport director Arnór Smárason said that Strömberg “was the best-suited candidate already working at the club”.
- Strömberg has been involved in the club’s women’s setup for several years (three years as assistant) and is described as “demanding”, “detail-oriented” and “good at building relationships.
- The club emphasised continuity and internal promotion: choosing someone familiar with the team’s environment rather than looking externally.
