She grew up in Modimolle, Limpopo, and has said her football story started in the “dusty streets” there.

She studied for a Bachelor of Administration at the University of the Western Cape, and called graduating and winning WAFCON the two biggest highlights of her career at that point.

Her biggest football inspiration is Amanda Dlamini, whom she called one of Banyana Banyana’s best midfielders — and she later got to share the pitch with her.

Her mother was not fully on board with football at first, but eventually came around and accepted it.

Motau’s path has taken her from Limpopo and UWC to U.S. college soccer and now Mexico, while also becoming part of the Banyana Banyana side that won South Africa’s first Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title.
