Fernanda is often called "La Científica del Fútbol" (The Soccer Scientist) because she holds a Bachelor's degree in Physics from the University of Chile.

She was a Master’s student and began a PhD in Physics in 2018 but paused her studies to play professional football in Spain ahead of the 2019 World Cup.

Fernanda is a co-author of several scientific research publications regarding topological insulators, showing her deep involvement in condensed matter physics.

She is a trailblazer for social causes, having joined the left-wing political party Social Convergence in Chile to advocate for women's rights and sports professionalization.

In June 2022, she married Grace Lazcano, a well-known Chilean sports journalist.

Fernanda became a mother on February 17, 2026, when she and her wife welcomed their daughter, Elena.

She was a key part of the Chile squad that won the Silver Medal at the 2023 Pan American Games, one of the highest honors in Chilean women's football history.
