Her Corinthians nickname is “Zinedine Zanotti,” and it came from her admiration for Zinedine Zidane’s classic midfielder style.

She grew up with rare family support for a girl playing football in Brazil, including strong backing from her parents, mother and grandparents.

She once played on the same team as her mother in Itaguaçu: her mother was a defender, while Gabi played further forward.

Before settling fully into football, she played field football, futsal and beach soccer to keep competing when girls’ tournaments were scarce.

Her longevity formula is simple and strict: sleep well, rest well, eat well and live with discipline.

Gabi grew up in a football house so lively that her mother, Dona Nailza, remembered getting “driven crazy” by all the ball-playing indoors before putting her into a football school.
