Giovanna Waksman Costa is a Brazilian midfielder. She has represented Brazil at youth international level.
She started playing football at school after asking to join the boys during PE class.
She grew up in JacarepaguĂĄ, in Rio de Janeiro, and began her club path at local side Sogima FC before moving to Botafogo.
Because Botafogo did not have a girlsâ team for her age group at the time, she played in boysâ teams and wore the No. 10 shirt.
Her family moved with her to Jupiter, Florida, in October 2022 so she could study and play there.
Marta is the biggest reference in womenâs football for her.
She has said that becoming the best player in the world has been her biggest goal since she was nine years old.
Her biggest football idol is Lionel Messi.
Outside football, she loves the beach, parks and spending time with her friends and family.
When Giovanna Waksman moved from Florida to OL Lyonnes at just 16 â a club many older players can only dream of joining â the media quickly labelled her âthe next Martaâ. But have the French champions really discovered a generational talent?
Sixteen-year-old Giovanna Waksman joins the French champions from Florida, where she caught attention with an impressive run of performances. The young Brazilian talent has signed a contract with the club until 2028.
