Alvarado was born in Santa Monica, California, and grew up in the United States while maintaining her eligibility for the Mexican national team through her parents.

She attended Mississippi State University for her freshman year before transferring to Texas Christian University (TCU), where she played three seasons for the Horned Frogs.

She represented Mexico at the 2010 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Germany, appearing in all three group matches.

Alvarado made her senior FIFA Women's World Cup debut in 2011 in Germany and was also included in the squad for the 2015 tournament in Canada.

She spent time playing in the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) for both FC Dallas and the Texas Spurs FC before the launch of the professional league in Mexico.

She is one of the few active players in the Mexican league to have participated in a CONCACAF Women's Championship, helping Mexico secure third place in 2010.
