In 2021, Bruun became the Danish female footballer of the year. She managed to end the six-year long reign of Pernille Harder, who won every time from 2015 to 2020.

Bruun is a regular part of the Danish national team. She played on both major tournaments: FIFA World Cup 2023 and UEFA Women's EURO 2022.

When she asked to describe her role in the team, her answer was simple: "I’m a no. 9, I’m a goalscorer, so what I’m doing every day on the pitch in training is to give myself the best possibilities to score goals at the weekend."

Her achievements include winning the UEFA Women's Champions League in 2021/22 with Lyon. She joined the team in June 2021 and made eight appearances in the competition during the first half of the season, scoring one goal in a 5–0 win over Benfica Lisbon in December 2021. In January 2022, she left Lyon and went on loan to Manchester United.

Bruun made her UEFA Women's Champions League debut at a very young age. In November 2014, she came on as a substitute in the 74th minute when her team Fortuna Hjørring played against Swedish side FC Rosengård. She was 16 years old at the time.

In June 2019, Bruun's promising career was stopped, as she suffered an ACL injury (one of the worst football injuries) that kept her out for a whole year. She made her competitive comeback on 2 August 2020

In August 2021, Bruun joined a FIFPro 10-year research project tracking players' physical and mental wellbeing. The study aims to improve knowledge about the physiology of footballers during their careers, and the first years after they stop playing.

Bruun has her own personal mental coach. "The mental part, together with sleep and nutrition are really important: they are affecting what I do on the pitch. My first talks with my mental coach were really, really positive. I quickly noticed the difference on the pitch, which, to me, confirmed that I could benefit from it," she said.

In October 2014, Bruun scored 8 goals against Kazakhstan in UEFA EURO WU17 qualification, and later became the best goalscorer of the entire qualification with 10 goals overall. She also equaled the competition record with eight goals in one match (Netherlands striker Vivienne Miedema also managed to score 8 goals to the Kazakhstan net).

Bruun is a family type, on her Instagram profile she often thanks her mother for her support and also never misses an opportunity to publicly thank her on Mother's Day.
