In June 2019, Bruun's promising career was stopped, as she suffered an ACL injury (one of the worst football injuries) that kept her out for a whole year. She made her competitive comeback on 2 August 2020

In August 2021, Bruun joined a FIFPro 10-year research project tracking players' physical and mental wellbeing. The study aims to improve knowledge about the physiology of footballers during their careers, and the first years after they stop playing.

Bruun has her own personal mental coach. "The mental part, together with sleep and nutrition are really important: they are affecting what I do on the pitch. My first talks with my mental coach were really, really positive. I quickly noticed the difference on the pitch, which, to me, confirmed that I could benefit from it," she said.

In October 2014, Bruun scored 8 goals against Kazakhstan in UEFA EURO WU17 qualification, and later became the best goalscorer of the entire qualification with 10 goals overall. She also equaled the competition record with eight goals in one match (Netherlands striker Vivienne Miedema also managed to score 8 goals to the Kazakhstan net).
