Real Sociedad’s commitment to growth and the growing of the women’s team
Real Sociedad continues to reap the rewards after the last major investment made by the club at the beginning of the 25/26 season. Arturo Ruiz’s team has qualified for the UEFA Women's Champions League qualifiers and has managed to finish the Liga F season in third place, ahead of Atlético de Madrid and only behind Real Madrid and FC Barcelona Femení.
The Basque club made a large investment, refurbishing the women’s team’s main pitch and the team’s training facilities. The girls have gone from training in a gym sheltered with a tent to having a more professional area from themselves and for exclusive use, without having to share the facilities with the teams of the academy. The Z7 stadium in Zubieta, the sports city, also had a before and after, increasing the capacity to 4.000 seats. The Real Sociedad men’s reserve team also plays and trains there, which enjoys the new facilities along with the women’s team.
The club also adapted the pitch, improving the press area an equipping it with areas for television broadcasting. The building called Izan, that means being in Basque, the language of the Basque Country, has three floors and an area of 4-500 square meters.
In addition, it also has its own new building for the women’s team, which can enjoy the new facilities exclusively. It has its own changing room for the women’s team, offices for the team structure, gym, medical room, and a physiotherapy room, a special room to watch the videos and the press room has also been moved there. There are also changing rooms for the three women’s teams that make up Real Sociedad’s women’s football structure. Finally, the visiting teams and referees also have their own changing rooms there.
And what else?
The building also has pioneering technology for training, a multipurpose court and a women’s team dining room. Finally, they also built a new underground car park, in addition to renovating the outdoor car park were fans park on game days.
The Budget to carry out the work was 15 million euros. The work was put out to tender and a well-known company from the Basque Country won, which was commissioned as a construction company. In addition, they also had a grant from the Higher Sports Council of Spain.
The women’s team also trains in the stadium where they then compete on weekends, adapting to the pitch. Real Sociedad has managed to consolidate itself as one of the strongest teams in Liga F this season after the arrival of Arturo Ruiz this year as a coach, finishing in third place and qualifying to play in the Women's Champions League qualifiers.
The Basque team will return to compete in Europe after four years of having achieved it for the las time. This will also mean and extra income of money for playing in the European competition, which will make both the team and the section continue to grow to become one of the benchmarks of Spanish women’s football.
