She started playing football with boys at Albese when she was just six years old.

Football wasn't her only talent growing up. She also competed in pallapugno, following in her father's footsteps.

Marta comes from a sporting family. Her father, Luca Mascarello, was both a football coach and a former pallapugno (Italian fistball) player.

Before fully dedicating herself to football, Marta represented Italy in ball sports, winning a bronze medal at the 2012 World Championship in the Netherlands. Her years playing pallapugno helped develop the coordination, reactions and competitive mentality she later brought onto the football pitch.
