Angel City's captain announces retirement
Ali Riley, captain of Angel City FC, announced she will retire at the end of the 2025 NWSL season, bringing an end to a storied, decades-long career.

- Her decision follows a prolonged battle with a chronic nerve injury that derailed her 2024 season and kept her out of the 2024 Olympics.
- Internationally, she represented New Zealand’s Football Ferns across five World Cups and four Olympics, earning 163 caps—making her one of the country’s most capped players.
- At club level, Riley’s career spanned multiple continents and top leagues: from FC Gold Pride and Western New York Flash, to Rosengård, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Orlando Pride, and finally Angel City, where she served as their inaugural captain.
