DFB plans €100 Investment to transform Germany’s Women’s Bundesliga
The Deutscher Fußball‑Bund (DFB) has proposed a landmark €100 million investment aimed at professionalising the Frauen‑Bundesliga, with plans to launch a joint league company and elevate infrastructure, player welfare and commercial growth.
- The investment will be voted on at the DFB’s General Assembly in November and, if approved, is intended to support the league’s professionalisation, structural independence, and commercial growth.
- A key component is the creation of a new league company, formed as a joint venture between the DFB’s commercial arm and the clubs of the Frauen-Bundesliga, to manage operations, marketing and strategic development.
- The funding plan targets infrastructure upgrades, player welfare and welfare systems, commercial expansion, and increasing visibility of the league so that it catches up with top European women’s leagues.
- DFB President Bernd Neuendorf described the move as a “turning point” for women’s football in Germany, emphasising that the league must be able to “stand on its own two feet — economically, structurally and in terms of visibility.
- The initiative also aligns with Germany’s ambition to retain top domestic talent, expand the league’s appeal, and strengthen its position ahead of major tournaments such as the bid for the Women’s EURO 2029.
