Gwinn and Berger share the title of Germany’s Footballer of the Year
For the first time since 1996, two players will share the women’s Footballer of the Year award. The winners are Germany captain Giulia Gwinn (FC Bayern) and goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger (Gotham FC).
- Both received 145 out of 608 votes from the German Sports Journalists' Association (VDS). Klara Bühl (FC Bayern) finished second with 52 votes from the German Sports Journalists' Association (VDS).
- Berger played an important role in the recently concluded Euro, where, for example, she saved penalties against France and helped Germany advance to the semifinals. Unfortunately, Gwinn only played 40 minutes at the Euro before getting injured in the first match against Poland.
- For Berger, it's her second win already. She won last year as well.
- Controversial are the 10 votes for Lena Oberdorf, who did not play a single minute this season due to injury.
- Germany coach Christian Wück expressed his pride, highlighting their impressive performances both on and off the field over the past months.
