Norway's Maren Mjelde has announced her retirement from international football
After 18 years and 183 matches, Norwegian footballer Maren Mjelde has ended her national team career. She announced the news to fans on Instagram. She captained the team for almost a decade, describing it as “the greatest privilege” of her career.
- Mjelde played 183 international matches, making her joint second on Norway’s all-time appearances list, behind only Hege Riise (188), and tied with Solveig Gulbrandsen.
- She played her last match in Norway's jersey on Euros quartelfinal, where Norway lost to Italy 1:2. Mjelde described the decision as “bittersweet and sad,” but above all felt “proud, happy, and grateful” for the experiences, memories, and people she met throughout her career.
- "A little girl had a big dream: to represent Norway, play in championships, and win medals. That dream came true, and I can, hand on heart, say that playing for the national team has been the greatest thing I have done in my career." - wrote norwergian legend on her Instagram post.
