Sad end for Sembrant's career. Sweden lost bronze medal match after exciting comeback
They fought hard in front of their home crowd, and Rosa Kafaji's late goal kept Sweden's bronze medal hopes alive. However, France prevailed in overtime and celebrated the bronze medal.
- Sweden overturned a 0:1 deficit in the match when their new generation of players stepped up late in Stockholm, staging an impressive comeback. Evelyn Ijeh (AC Milan) headed in a corner for 1:1 in the 86th minute, giving Sweden hope as the match moved into its final stages.
- Rosa Kafaji completed the turnaround in the 92nd minute, making it 2:1 and levelling the tie at 3:3 on aggregate, forcing extra time.
- Despite several chances in extra time, Sweden failed to score the decisive third goal, missing the opportunity to take the lead in the two-legged playoff.
- Earlier in the match, after a goalless first quarter, France struck through Kelly Gago, who broke free on the left and scored past Jennifer Falk — a goal that proved crucial to the final outcome.
- The second leg ended 2:2, making the aggregate score 4:3 to France, who secured the bronze medal in the Nations League.
- After the final whistle, Sweden’s head coach Tony Gustavsson received a red card for rushing towards the match officials in protest.
Sweden finish fourth, continuing a difficult run of results: the national team has not won a match since 12 July, when they beat Germany in the Euro group stage.
