Shocking start of UWCL for Chelsea
Chelsea makes no secret of its great desire to win the Champions League title. However, the start of the competition did not go as well as they would have liked.
- Chelsea began their campaign in the revised league-phase format with a 1–1 draw at FC Twente.
- Manager Sonia Bompastor made seven changes from their previous match, bringing in backups including Peng (in goal) and other rotated starters.
- In the 63rd minute, Twente’s captain Danique van Ginkel curled a superb long-distance shot past goalkeeper Livia Peng to put the home side ahead.
- Chelsea dominated possession and pushed hard—registering 18 crosses and multiple attacking efforts—but often lacked finishing precision or were denied by Twente’s keeper Diede Lemey.
- In the 71st minute, Guro Reiten was fouled in the box by Lynn Groenewegen. Sandy Baltimore stepped up and confidently converted the penalty to level the match.
- Chelsea's coach Bompastor admitted the result was disappointing, emphasizing the need for greater intensity and composure in the box.
