Fishing was one of the activities she enjoyed doing with her father when she was growing up.

Karen comes from a Ghanaian family and says she feels enriched by growing up between two cultures. At home, her family preserves Ghanaian traditions, while outside the home she embraces Italian culture, describing the combination as something that broadens her perspective on life.

Many of her paintings are given away as gifts because she enjoys making other people happy through her artwork.

She balanced university studies with football and graduated in Law while building her career in Brasília’s women’s football scene.

To balance elite football and education, she attended Gimnazija Šiška in Ljubljana, a sports-oriented secondary school where football training is integrated into the daily timetable. She says this helped her combine studies and football much more effectively.

Her time at Fiorentina was her first experience of living away from home. She quickly fell in love with Florence and even picked up the local accent.

Away from football, Maelys would have loved to become a psychologist working in prisons, driven by her fascination with understanding why people make the choices they do.
