Kaja’s brother first inspired her to play football — funny enough, he later stopped playing, while she kept going all the way to the professional game.

She started playing football at six and grew up mostly around boys’ football, playing for NK Sava with boys until she was 14.

Her teenage dream was already clear: play abroad for a strong club — a goal she later made real in Austria and Italy.

Young Kaja’s football taste had a global mix: Manchester United was her favourite club, Cristiano Ronaldo impressed her, and Marta was her role model.

Football was the sport that truly stayed with Kaja: as a child, she tried basketball, tennis and dance, but while her mother once imagined her as a dancer, Kaja found her own version of it — dancing on the pitch.

Kaja marked her 100th Slovenia appearance with pure emotion, calling it “100 games, 100 reasons to be proud” and saying the journey had gone beyond anything she dreamed of as a child.
